$15 Million in Presales for Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, premiering alongside the album The Life of a Showgirl, sold $15 million in tickets within its first 24 hours of presales.

Opening weekend projections for October 3–5 range between $30 million and $50 million. AMC Theatres recorded its sixth-highest single-day presale ever, with $7.5 million in sales for Showgirl.

Deadline reports that unlike The Eras Tour, which was initially pitched to Hollywood studios but ultimately distributed directly by AMC, Swift and her representatives contacted AMC CEO Adam Aron in late August. The Eras Tour grossed $180.8 million domestically and $267.1 million worldwide, reportedly netting Swift $172 million in profit. Once again, the pop star is set to secure another highly lucrative deal without traditional studio distribution.

No trailer is expected for this film. With Swift’s AMC deal finalized only two weeks before release, the marketing spend will be far smaller than that of The Eras Tour, which cost $55 million in promotion over six weeks and debuted to $93.2 million—the second-highest October opening of all time, behind Joker. By comparison, presales for The Eras Tour were estimated at $37 million.

Tickets for Showgirl are priced at $12 before tax, while The Eras Tour charged $13.13 for children and seniors, and $20 for adults.

The 89-minute film features the music video for The Fate of Ophelia, Swift’s commentary on her new album tracks, behind-the-scenes footage from the music video shoot, and videos of other songs from the record with lyrics.

When The Eras Tour announced its release date two years in advance, Universal postponed The Exorcist: Believer to avoid competition. This time, Showgirl will open against The Smashing Machine starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, which is projected to gross around $20 million. Meanwhile, Disney and 20th Century will re-release Avatar: The Way of Water.

Showgirl will screen for just one week across 540 theaters and will also be released in 18 international markets, including Mexico, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
